Management review

ClauseRetitled; possible consolidation, wording not verifiedRetrieved 2026-10-19Last updated: 2026-10-19

The requirement that applies today

Top management reviews the system at planned intervals to confirm it is still suitable, adequate and effective. The review considers the status of previous actions, changes in the context, performance information including updating, monitoring, verification analysis, nonconformities and corrective actions, audit results, inspections, external provider performance, risks and opportunities and the extent to which objectives were met, the adequacy of resources, any emergency, incident or recall, relevant external and internal communication including complaints, and opportunities for improvement. The outputs include decisions and actions on improvement and any need to update the system, including resources and changes to policy and objectives. Records are kept.

What the draft does

Retitled; possible consolidation, wording not verified: The public contents show 9.3 with no subclause numbers, where the current edition numbers the general requirement, the inputs and the outputs. An omission from a contents page does not prove consolidation; the draft text is sold by ISO and not held here.

Why this clause matters

The review is where the system meets the business. A review that walks through a fixed agenda and produces no decisions is a meeting, not a review. The new culture, defence, fraud and complaints requirements all need a place on the agenda, and the revision itself should be a standing item until transition is complete.

Suggested evidence to discuss with your auditor

For 9.3, these are the artefacts we suggest discussing with your auditor. The standard publishes no evidence list, so this is our reading, not a requirement.

  • Review minutes showing inputs, discussion and decisions
  • A decision with an owner, a date and a resource
  • Evidence that the review considered the new requirements

Where systems usually fall short

  • A fixed agenda with no time for the new items
  • Decisions recorded without owners or dates

How to prepare

Add four standing items to the next review: culture, defence, fraud and complaints. Ask for one decision on each. That single meeting gives you evidence for the new clauses and shows top management what the transition will require.
