A.6

Codex principle 2 and step 7: determine the CCPs

Annex A stepMapped in the current Annex A to 8.5.4, with 8.5.2.4; the 2026 table is sold by ISO and not held hereRetrieved 2026-10-19Last updated: 2026-10-19

The requirement that applies today

The second Codex principle, at step 7, is to determine the critical control points. The current edition maps it to the hazard control plan, with the selection and categorization of control measures deciding what is a CCP and what is an OPRP.

ISO/DIS 22000:2026, Annex A 6, Codex principle 2 and step 7: determine the CCPs.

What the draft does

Mapped in the current Annex A to 8.5.4, with 8.5.2.4; the 2026 table is sold by ISO and not held here: The 2026 contents keep both clause titles and add the informative Annex B on selection. For this row the inferred 2026 destination is 8.5.2.4, 8.5.4, 8.5.3; that reading comes from the clause titles, not from the published 2026 table.

Why this clause matters

The CCP decision is a judgement that has to be recorded. A site that calls every control a CCP spreads attention too thin; a site that calls everything an OPRP may be avoiding the discipline of a measurable limit. The 2026 contents keep both clauses.

Suggested evidence to discuss with your auditor

For A.6, these are the artefacts we suggest discussing with your auditor. The standard publishes no evidence list, so this is our reading, not a requirement.

  • A decision record for each control measure
  • The reasoning for CCP or OPRP, including likelihood and severity
  • A list of CCPs and OPRPs that matches the plan in use

Where systems usually fall short

  • A decision tree copied from a template
  • A measure classified one way in the plan and another way in practice

How to prepare

Take the measure the team argued about most and write the decision in five sentences. That note is the evidence a transition auditor will ask for.
