Selection and categorization of control measures: the method

Annex B sectionNew informative annexRetrieved 2026-10-19Last updated: 2026-10-19

The requirement that applies today

The second section of the draft Annex B covers the selection and categorisation method itself. The public contents name B.2. The text is not in the public sample, so this record does not state the method, the criteria or any decision tree it may contain.

ISO/DIS 22000:2026, Annex B 2, Selection and categorization of control measures: the method.

What the draft does

New informative annex: The public contents name B.2 under the new Annex B. The annex is informative and its text is sold by ISO and not held here, so no method is stated here.

Why this clause matters

A method is only useful if it produces consistent decisions across products and shifts. The current clause already requires a systematic approach with likelihood, severity and feasibility. The annex is expected to describe one way of doing that, not to replace the requirement.

Suggested evidence to discuss with your auditor

For B.2, these are the artefacts we suggest discussing with your auditor. The standard publishes no evidence list, so this is our reading, not a requirement.

  • The method the site uses, written down
  • Evidence that it was applied consistently across products
  • A review of decisions after a process change

Where systems usually fall short

  • A different method for each product
  • A method that exists in a slide but not in the records

How to prepare

Write down the method you actually use, in one page, with an example. Then apply it to one new product and see whether a second person reaches the same decision. Consistency is the test. Keep the page with the hazard analysis, not in a slide deck, so a new team member can apply it without asking a colleague.
