The requirement that applies today
The organization works out, provides and maintains the resources needed for a work environment that lets the system meet its requirements. The clause note describes a mix of human and physical factors: social conditions, psychological conditions such as stress and burnout, and physical conditions such as temperature, humidity, light, airflow, hygiene and noise.

What the draft does
Unchanged title: The public contents keep 7.1.4 at the same number and title. No structural change is shown. The new 5.4 gives the human side of this clause more weight.

Why this clause matters
This clause connects the factory floor to the food safety system. A hot, rushed, understaffed line makes shortcuts more likely, and the standard treats that as a system issue rather than an individual failing. It is also a natural bridge to the new culture clause.
Suggested evidence to discuss with your auditor
For 7.1.4, these are the artefacts we suggest discussing with your auditor. The standard publishes no evidence list, so this is our reading, not a requirement.
- A workplace assessment covering the physical conditions in food handling areas
- Evidence that crowding, heat, noise or shift patterns were reviewed for their effect on food safety
- Actions taken and their effect, not only the assessment
Where systems usually fall short
- An assessment that covers safety and comfort but never links to food safety behaviour
- Seasonal conditions known to cause errors and left unmanaged
How to prepare
Walk the line at the busiest shift and the hottest part of the day. Note where people are rushed, crowded or uncomfortable, and ask supervisors what goes wrong there. Pick one condition to fix and record the effect.
