The requirement that applies today
The system includes the documented information the standard requires, whatever the organization decides it needs for the system to work, and the documents and food safety requirements that regulators and customers require. How much documentation is needed varies with the size of the organization, the complexity of its processes and the competence of its people.

What the draft does
Unchanged title: The public contents keep 7.5.1 at the same number and title. No structural change is shown.

Why this clause matters
The clause gives permission to be proportionate, which is often ignored in both directions: some sites drown in documents, others cannot produce a current hazard analysis. The revision changes clause numbers, so the document index is also a transition risk.
Suggested evidence to discuss with your auditor
For 7.5.1, these are the artefacts we suggest discussing with your auditor. The standard publishes no evidence list, so this is our reading, not a requirement.
- A document index with owner, version, location and review date
- Evidence that the amount of documentation matches the complexity and competence
- The regulatory and customer documents the system depends on
Where systems usually fall short
- A document set that has grown without review
- Key records held only on paper in a production office
How to prepare
Count the documents that nobody has opened in a year. Either they are needed and should be maintained, or they can be retired. Then check the index names the current version of each document that matters. Count the documents nobody has opened in a year and retire them. A smaller, current set is stronger evidence than a large set nobody can navigate.
