The requirement that applies today
The organization carries out internal audits at planned intervals to show whether the system conforms to its own requirements and to this document, and whether it is effectively implemented and maintained. The current edition covers the requirement and the programme in one clause and already numbers 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 in its body; the public contents give both subclauses headings.
ISO 22000:2018, 9.2 Internal audit; ISO/DIS 22000:2026, 9.2.
What the draft does
Headings added to existing subclauses: The current edition already numbers 9.2.1 and 9.2.2 in the body of the clause. The public contents give both subclauses headings. That is an editorial change in the contents, not evidence of a new numerical split, and the draft text is sold by ISO and not held here.

Why this clause matters
Internal audit is the system’s own early warning. The parent page is the place to see the purpose and the programme together; the two subclause pages carry the detail. The headings make the programme more visible, which is useful: frequency, methods, auditor competence and follow-up are where audits usually fail.
Suggested evidence to discuss with your auditor
For 9.2, these are the artefacts we suggest discussing with your auditor. The standard publishes no evidence list, so this is our reading, not a requirement.
- An audit schedule covering the whole system over a cycle
- Audit reports that test effectiveness, not only presence
- Evidence that findings were corrected and followed up
Where systems usually fall short
- Audits that only sample documents
- The same auditor auditing their own area
How to prepare
Choose one clause and audit it by watching the process, not by reading the file. Compare what you see with what the document says. That gap is the value of an internal audit, and it is the evidence the transition audit will look for.
