The requirement that applies today

The food safety team analyses the results of verification activities, and that analysis feeds the performance evaluation of the system.

ISO 22000:2018, 8.8.2 Verification: analysis of results; ISO/DIS 22000:2026, 8.8.2.

Why this clause matters

Results that are filed but not analysed are cost without benefit. The analysis is where a trend becomes visible, such as a rising number of deviations on one line or a supplier whose results are drifting. The clause is short and it is the bridge to clause 9.

Suggested evidence to discuss with your auditor

For 8.8.2, these are the artefacts we suggest discussing with your auditor. The standard publishes no evidence list, so this is our reading, not a requirement.

  • An analysis record with trends, not only a list of results
  • Evidence that the analysis reached the food safety team and management review
  • Actions that followed from the analysis

Where systems usually fall short

  • A monthly report of results with no interpretation
  • Trends noticed informally and never acted on

How to prepare

Chart the last twelve months of verification results for one control. If the chart shows nothing, check whether the measure is sensitive enough to show anything. Then write one sentence on what it tells you. Write one page a month: what the verification results show, what changed, and what you will do. A chart without a decision is not an analysis. Keep it to one page and send it before the review. Send the page to the food safety team before the review, with the one decision you want from them.
